Freight pickup from a storage unit at the freight price.
A storage facility has no dock, no forklift and nobody to sign, so every legacy tariff bills it twice: limited access plus liftgate. On Warp both are $0, the truck that shows up is a 26 ft box truck with a liftgate, and the price is quoted in 10 seconds. From live Warp LTL rates, one pallet from a Los Angeles unit to Chicago is $407.19 with 5 day transit, liftgate pickup included, as of September 16, 2026.

Priced lanes from a Los Angeles storage unit
12 destinations, one pallet, liftgate pickup included, as of September 16, 2026.
Los Angeles is where the storage pickups come from: flex warehouses in City of Industry and the Valley, drive up units across the basin, inventory bought from an importer and staged in a 10 by 20 until it sells.
The Warp number is the invoice: the liftgate at the unit, the limited access facility, a liftgate or residential delivery at the other end and the appointment window add nothing, and no fuel surcharge, cubic capacity rule or linear foot rule rerates it after pickup.

Adds on a legacy LTL tariff for the same pickup at a storage facility: limited access $85 to $204 flat or $5.00 to $15.25 per hundredweight with minimums of $70 to $170.50, plus liftgate $75 to $246 minimum, plus a fuel surcharge on the base rate. On Warp every one of those is $0. The named carrier head to head for each lane is on its lane page.
The two fees a storage pickup always triggers, by tariff
Limited access and liftgate, quoted from the carriers’ own published sheets. Old Dominion even has a self storage line.
A storage facility meets every limited access definition in the industry: no dedicated receiving staff, no dock, gated hours, a driver who has to find you.
FreightCenter lists storage units by name among its limited access sites, and Old Dominion publishes a dedicated item for self storage warehouses.
Then the liftgate is a second line, because nothing at the facility can lift a pallet into a trailer. The rows below are the published figures; the Warp row is the tariff at /ltl-tariff.

What the driver runs into at each operator
Gate hours, business use rules and whether there is a dock, from the operators’ own pages.
Two kinds of building share the word storage.
A self storage facility (Public Storage, Extra Space, CubeSmart, U-Haul) has drive up doors, gate hours and rules about running a business from a unit; a flex warehouse (ReadySpaces, Cube Work) is built for shipping, with dock doors, forklifts and 24 hour access, and a pickup there is an ordinary dock pickup.
Warp prices both the same. What changes is what you need to have ready when the truck arrives.
- Public Storage
- Gate access is typically 6 am to 9 pm, with 24/7 access at 2,400 plus locations. Storing business inventory is allowed, but most locations cannot accept deliveries on your behalf: be there for the pickup. Drive up units vary by location.
- Extra Space
- Gate hours 6 am to 10 pm at most locations, 24/7 by arrangement with the manager at 1,300 plus facilities. You cannot operate a business out of a unit: no selling from it, no customers inside, no employees working in it. Storing and shipping inventory is not selling from it; the pickup happens at the door.
- CubeSmart
- Standard access 6 am to 10 pm. Rules prohibit conducting a business, manufacturing, exhibiting or selling from the unit. CubeSmart does offer package acceptance at the office, and a drive up unit is a ground floor unit with its own loading area.
- U-Haul
- Access hours vary by location; outside staffed office hours the loading doors close and need an additional swipe. U-Haul markets commercial and business storage as a use case and offers drive up units as their own product.
- ReadySpaces
- 24 hour access at most locations, loading docks, grade level doors, forklifts and pallet jacks on site, built for tenants who ship in and ship out. A pickup here is a dock pickup: no liftgate needed, same Warp price.
- Cube Work
- 24/7 member key card access and dock high loading positions; the operator markets to e-commerce, distribution and import export businesses. A pickup here is a dock pickup.
- 26 ft
- The Warp truck at a storage facility is a 26 ft box truck with a liftgate, or a cargo van for case freight. Drive up aisles built for rental trucks take it; most self storage properties cannot take a 53 ft trailer.

What to have ready at the unit
A pallet, not a closet. Stack the cartons on a 48 by 40 pallet, keep it under about 72 inches, stretch wrap it top to bottom and put the label with the destination and a phone number on two sides.
Roll it to the drive up door or the facility's loading area before the window opens: the driver's pallet jack moves a pallet across a flat surface and onto the liftgate, not down an interior corridor or an elevator, and a unit on an upper floor means the freight comes to the loading bay first.
Put the gate code, the unit number and your cell phone in the booking notes so the driver reaches you at the gate, and book inside the facility's access hours.
Pickup at an Amazon prep stage or a flex warehouse dock works the same way, minus the liftgate.
What Warp does not do at a storage facility
Pack the unit, palletize loose cartons, carry freight out of an interior hallway, or wait at a gate nobody answers.
Driver assist inside the facility is a lumper line on the tariff (receipt cost plus 10%, $10 minimum), quoted before pickup, never a surprise after.
And Warp will not carry what the tariff prohibits from any origin: hazmat, cannabis, firearms, artwork and antiques, precious metals and stones, bulk liquids.
Frequently asked questions
Can a freight truck pick up a pallet from a storage unit?
Yes.
A 26 ft box truck with a liftgate drives the same aisles rental trucks use, the driver lowers the pallet on the liftgate and loads it with a pallet jack, and the whole thing takes minutes at a drive up door.
What a storage facility cannot do is load a 53 ft trailer, lift a pallet, or sign for freight, which is why legacy carriers bill limited access and liftgate on the same pickup and why Warp sends a box truck and bills neither.
Does Warp charge a limited access fee at a storage facility?
No. Limited access and the liftgate are both $0 lines on Warp's published LTL tariff (Version 1.2), and the fuel surcharge is 0%.
Published legacy tariffs bill limited access at $85 (Estes) to $204 (FedEx Freight) flat, or $7.20 to $15.25 per hundredweight with minimums of $115 to $170.50 (Old Dominion, XPO), plus a liftgate line with minimums from $75 to $246.
Old Dominion carries a separate self storage warehouse item at $5.00 per hundredweight, $70 minimum.
Do I have to be at the storage unit for the pickup?
Yes. Public Storage says most locations cannot accept deliveries on your behalf, and no operator's staff will sign a bill of lading for a tenant.
Be at the unit inside the facility's access hours with the pallet wrapped and at the door, and put the gate code and your phone number in the booking notes. The driver calls from the gate.
Can I run my business out of a storage unit and ship from it?
Storing and shipping inventory is allowed at most operators; selling from the unit, hosting customers or staffing it is what the rules prohibit.
Public Storage allows business inventory outright; Extra Space and CubeSmart prohibit operating a business from the unit but not storing stock; ReadySpaces and Cube Work are flex warehouses built for exactly this, with docks, forklifts and 24 hour access.
Check the operator row above, then quote the pickup.
Can I ship to Amazon FBA from a storage unit?
Yes.
Sellers on Amazon's own forum warn that trucking companies charge at least $50 more to send a liftgate truck to a unit; on Warp the liftgate at the unit is $0 and so is the delivery appointment at the fulfillment center.
Palletize to Amazon's spec (48 by 40 pallet, under 72 inches, clear stretch wrap, pallet labels on the sides), book the pickup to the facility with your unit number, and the appointment at the FC is made for you.
About the Warp freight network
More about the Warp freight network
Warp is a technology-driven freight network that combines cargo van, box truck, LTL, and FTL capacity under one operating system. Shippers get instant rates, real-time tracking, and access to 70+ cross-dock facilities and 14,000+ cargo vans and box trucks — with 80%+ US LTL zip-to-zip coverage and nationwide FTL, box truck, and cargo van.
The network is supported by 24,000+ vetted FTL carriers.
Unlike traditional brokers, Warp uses AI to match the right vehicle to every load based on weight, dimensions, urgency, and cost targets. Cross-dock operations reduce transit time by eliminating unnecessary terminal transfers.
Pool distribution and zone-skipping programs help enterprise shippers lower per-unit delivery costs while maintaining tight appointment windows.
Self-serve shippers can quote, compare, and book freight online in under two minutes. Enterprise accounts get dedicated capacity planning, committed rate programs, and a named operations team. Every shipment includes scan-level visibility from pickup through final delivery.
Warp operates across the contiguous United States with regional density in the Southeast, Texas, Midwest, and Northeast corridors, and West Coast and Southwest coverage from Los Angeles, Seattle and Phoenix.
Warp operates 70+ cross-dock facilities across the US, with named markets including Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, New York, Savannah, Orlando, Charlotte, Indianapolis, Columbus, Denver, New Orleans, Milwaukee, Dallas-Fort Worth, Nashville, Phoenix, Tampa Bay, Seattle, Los Angeles. They support faster transfers and fewer touches on recurring lanes.
Freight modes and vehicle types
| Mode | Max payload | Max cube | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cargo van | 3,500 lbs | 400 cu ft | Time-sensitive, last-mile, light pallets |
| Box truck | 10,000 lbs | 1,500 cu ft | Regional distribution, no dock required |
| LTL | Per-pallet | Shared trailer | Lower per-pallet cost via cross-dock routing |
| Dry van / FTL | 42,000+ lbs | Full 53-ft trailer | High-volume lanes, recurring programs |
Cargo vans handle loads up to 3,500 pounds and 400 cubic feet, ideal for time-sensitive deliveries, last-mile retail replenishment, and lightweight palletized freight.
Box trucks carry up to 10,000 pounds and 1,500 cubic feet, fitting most regional distribution and store delivery needs without requiring a loading dock.
Dry vans and full truckloads move 42,000+ pounds for high-volume lanes and recurring programs. LTL shipments share trailer space on optimized routes through Warp cross-docks, reducing per-pallet cost by consolidating multiple shippers on the same vehicle.
Warp does not default every shipment to a 53-foot trailer. The AI engine evaluates load weight, cube, delivery window, and cost to recommend the right vehicle. Shippers see all available mode options with live pricing in one comparison screen before booking.
Cross-dock operations
Cross-docking at Warp facilities keeps freight moving instead of storing it: inbound freight is sorted and transferred directly to outbound vehicles, typically within hours. When inventory does need to sit, Warp's fulfillment centers in Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago and New Jersey hold it inside the same network, with same day delivery within 30 miles of each.
This reduces dwell time, lowers damage risk, and compresses delivery windows. Warp cross-docks support pallet-in, pallet-out operations with scan-level tracking at every handoff point.
- Atlanta — Southeast retail flow
- Chicago — Midwest manufacturing and replenishment
- Houston — Texas industrial distribution
- New York — dense Northeast delivery
Facility locations are selected for corridor density: Atlanta handles Southeast retail flow, Chicago serves Midwest manufacturing and replenishment, Houston covers Texas industrial distribution, and New York supports dense Northeast delivery. Each facility operates on appointment-based scheduling to prevent congestion and maintain throughput consistency.
Enterprise freight programs
Enterprise shippers get committed rate programs, dedicated account management, and custom SLA design. Warp builds lane-by-lane rate structures that account for volume commitments, seasonal variation, and mode flexibility. Operations teams monitor shipment execution daily and intervene proactively when exceptions occur.
Self-serve freight quoting
Shippers enter origin and destination, load details, and delivery requirements to see live rates across all available modes. Quotes include estimated transit time, vehicle type, and total cost.
Booking takes one click. After booking, shippers track every shipment with real-time GPS location, milestone updates, and proof of delivery documentation.
Industries and use cases
Retail shippers use Warp for store replenishment programs that deliver to hundreds of locations per week on tight appointment windows. Apparel brands use zone skipping to bypass regional parcel sortation and reduce per-unit delivery cost.
Food and beverage companies rely on time-definite delivery for perishable goods. Manufacturing operations use Warp for inbound vendor consolidation, combining multiple supplier shipments into fewer, fuller loads through cross-dock facilities.
Distribution companies use pool distribution to serve multiple delivery points from a single origin, splitting full truckloads at cross-docks into smaller last-mile vehicles.
Urgent freight recovery covers emergency capacity needs when primary carriers fail or demand spikes unexpectedly. Middle-mile optimization reduces cost and transit time on the longest segment of multi-leg shipments.
