Each page has the terminals, the warehouse ZIPs the boxes go to and how far each one is. Any other US port or ramp prices in the same form above.
Where drayage fees come from
Three clocks run on every import box. Pull it and return the empty inside them, and the only bill is the price you booked.
Pre pullPull the box to a yard before the last free day, and pay yard storage instead of demurrage.
Chassis splitThe chassis waits at a different yard than the box, so the driver collects it first.
Dry runThe truck arrives and the box can't be pulled, a hold or a missed appointment.

Drayage, answered
What is drayage?
Drayage is the short truck move that takes a shipping container from a port terminal or a rail ramp to its next stop: your warehouse, a transload dock or another rail yard. It's the first truck leg of every import box. A drayage price covers the truck, the chassis the container rides on, and taking the empty container back to the port.
How much does container drayage cost?
It depends on the port, the distance and the box. A move inside a port metro usually prices as one flat move, and longer runs price by the mile. The quote is all in for the move itself: trucking, fuel, tolls, the first chassis days and the empty back to the port, plus Pier Pass and the Clean Truck Fee at Los Angeles and Long Beach. Real 40 ft prices from the Warp dashboard on Oct 16: LA and Long Beach to Ontario, CA, $834.75; Savannah to Atlanta, GA, $1,790.25; Houston to Houston, TX, $666.75.
What is the difference between port drayage and rail drayage?
Port drayage pulls the box at an ocean terminal, like Savannah or Los Angeles and Long Beach. Rail drayage, also called intermodal drayage, pulls it at an inland rail ramp after the box has ridden the train, like the Chicago, Dallas and Atlanta ramps. The quote works the same way for both: pick the port or ramp, type the ZIP. Warp has pages for 9 ocean gateways and 3 rail hubs, and other US ports and ramps price in the same form.
What is the difference between demurrage, detention and per diem?
Demurrage is charged while the full container sits at the terminal past its free time, which runs out on the last free day. Per diem, often called detention, is charged while the container is outside the port past the ship line free days, until the empty is returned. Pull before the last free day and return the empty inside the free days, and neither applies.
What is a chassis split?
A container rides on a chassis, a wheeled frame. When the chassis sits at a different yard than the container, the driver collects the chassis first and then pulls the box. That extra stop is billed as a chassis split, and the quote shows its rate before you book.
What is a pre pull in drayage?
A pre pull moves the container out of the terminal before the last free day into a drayage yard, then delivers it when your dock is ready. You pay a prepull charge and yard storage per day instead of terminal demurrage, which is usually the cheaper side of the trade when the warehouse can't take the box in time.
How heavy can a container be for drayage?
About 44,000 lb of cargo in a 40 ft container and about 38,000 lb in a 20 ft on a standard chassis before the truck passes the 80,000 lb federal gross limit. Heavier boxes need an overweight permit and a tri axle chassis. Above 36,000 lb the quote shows the overweight charges that may apply.
Who drives the truck?
Licensed drayage carriers in the Warp carrier network, running their own trucks. Warp prices the move, books it, follows it to delivery and bills you once, on the card you booked with.
Can Warp unload the container after drayage?
Yes. Deliver the box to a Warp cross dock near the port and it's unloaded, palletized and labeled, then goes out on LTL, full truckload or box truck the same day. See transloading for the docks and the outbound prices.
Do I need an account to get a drayage quote?
No. Firm rates show without an account, and the lane you picked on this page arrives filled in. The Warp account opens as you book, so tracking, documents and receipts reach you, and nothing is charged until the carrier accepts the order.
