Parcel rates by weight, captured September 30, 2026

One box per row on three lanes, Standard and Express as the calculator picks them. Standard is the lowest priced service that delivers within five business days. Express is the lowest priced service faster than Standard. The last row on each lane is one pallet on Warp LTL, so you can see where a pallet starts to beat boxes. These are what a shipper pays on those lanes that day, not a promise for yours.

The rows stop at 70 lb because that is the most USPS takes in one package. UPS and FedEx take a box up to 150 lb, and the calculator above prices anything in between.

Why a light box can bill heavy, and where a pallet takes over on Los Angeles to Chicago, captured September 30, 2026

A 10 lb box, 12 x 12 x 12 in, is 1,728 cubic inches. Divided by 139, that is 12.4 lb of dimensional weight, so UPS and FedEx bill it as 13 lb. On Los Angeles to Chicago it priced $19.03 Standard on UPS Ground Saver, 5 days. Past 150 lb a box, one pallet up to 500 lb, class 70, is $426 all inclusive on the same lane, 7 days. The pallet and the dashed box beside the 150 lb line are drawn to one scale.

How to calculate parcel shipping

  1. Weigh and measure the box. Weigh each box in pounds and measure its length, width, and height in inches. UPS and FedEx bill the greater of the scale weight and the dimensional weight, length times width times height divided by 139. USPS uses 166.
  2. Enter both ZIP codes. Enter the origin and destination ZIP codes and the box weight and dimensions. Add a row per box size, up to 50 boxes to one address, priced as one shipment.
  3. Compare Standard and Express. The calculator rate shops USPS, UPS, and FedEx and returns two all inclusive prices with the carrier and transit days: Standard, the lowest priced service that delivers within five business days, and Express, the lowest priced service faster than Standard.
  4. Pick one and book. Pick Standard or Express, type the pickup and delivery addresses, and pay by card. Checkout creates a free Warp account with no monthly fee and no minimum.
  5. Print the label. The label opens on the receipt and lands in your inbox. Print it, tape it to the box, and hand the box to the carrier. One Warp tracking page follows it to the door.

Dimensional weight: when the box size sets the price

Carriers bill the greater of two weights: what the box weighs on a scale, and its dimensional weight. The formula is length times width times height in inches, divided by a divisor. UPS and FedEx use 139. USPS uses 166. Round the result up to the next pound.

Worked example: a 16 by 14 by 12 inch box that weighs 10 lb. 16 x 14 x 12 = 2,688 cubic inches. At UPS and FedEx, 2,688 / 139 = 19.3, so it bills as 20 lb, twice its scale weight. At USPS, 2,688 / 166 = 16.2, so it bills as 17 lb. That is the box in the 20 lb row of the table above, so a light box that size prices like the 20 lb row, not the 10 lb row. A smaller box for the same 10 lb is the fastest way to cut the price.

Check any box in the dim weight calculator. The parcel calculator on this page applies the carrier rules for you when it prices.

Past 150 lb: the calculator prices the pallet

UPS and FedEx cap a single package at 150 lb and 108 inches, and USPS at 70 lb. Most parcel calculators stop there. This one does not: enter a box over 150 lb, or more than 50 boxes, and it tells you the shipment ships as freight and prices it that way on the same screen.

The pallet row under each table shows what that costs on the same lane: one pallet up to 500 lb, class 70, all inclusive: $426 Los Angeles to Chicago, $277 Newark to Miami, and $216 Dallas to Atlanta. Against 70 lb boxes on Standard, the pallet already costs less at 5 boxes Los Angeles to Chicago, 4 Newark to Miami, and 3 Dallas to Atlanta. Price a pallet for your own ZIPs on the freight quote, or read the LTL vs parcel guide for how the two modes compare beyond price.

How can I calculate the shipping cost of my package?

Weigh the box and measure its length, width, and height. UPS and FedEx bill the greater of the scale weight and the dimensional weight (length times width times height divided by 139; USPS uses 166). Enter both ZIP codes and the box in the calculator on this page and it returns a Standard and an Express price from USPS, UPS, and FedEx, all inclusive, with the transit days. For scale: on September 30, 2026 a 10 lb, 12 by 12 by 12 inch box priced $14.86 to $19.03 Standard on the three lanes in the table.

Is it cheaper to send a 20 lb box UPS or USPS?

It depends on the lane, so the calculator prices both. On September 30, 2026, a 20 lb box (16 by 14 by 12 inches) on UPS Ground Saver against USPS Ground Advantage cost $29.52 against $31.75 Los Angeles to Chicago, $25.83 against $27.86 Newark to Miami, and $21.29 against $23.05 Dallas to Atlanta. UPS came in under USPS on all three lanes, by a few dollars. On Newark to Miami, FedEx Ground Economy Parcel Select was lower still at $25.20, which is why the calculator rate shops FedEx too.

How much to ship a 300 lb package?

A 300 lb shipment is freight, not parcel: UPS and FedEx cap a single package at 150 lb and USPS at 70 lb. Enter it in the calculator and it switches to a freight price on its own. One pallet up to 500 lb, class 70, all inclusive, costs $426 Los Angeles to Chicago, $277 Newark to Miami, and $216 Dallas to Atlanta on Warp LTL, the pallet row under each table on this page.

How much does a 40 lb package cost to ship?

A 40 lb box sits between two rows of the table. On September 30, 2026, 20 lb boxes cost $21.29 to $29.52 Standard on the three lanes and 50 lb boxes cost $44.15 to $66.12, so a 40 lb box lands inside that span depending on the lane and the box size. A large, light box can bill on dimensional weight instead of 40 lb. Enter the exact box in the calculator for its price.

How much does it cost to ship a 12x12 box?

A 12 by 12 by 12 inch box at 10 lb cost $19.03 Standard Los Angeles to Chicago (UPS Ground Saver, 5 days), $16.72 Newark to Miami, and $14.86 Dallas to Atlanta (UPS Ground, 2 days), captured September 30, 2026. At UPS and FedEx that box bills at least 13 lb whatever it weighs: 1,728 cubic inches divided by 139, rounded up.

What is the cheapest way to ship parcels?

Pay commercial rates instead of retail counter prices. Commercial USPS, UPS, and FedEx rates come through a shipping platform, and Warp sells them with a free account, no monthly fee, no minimum, and no carrier account to open. For a batch of boxes to one address, ship them as one multi-package shipment with one rate, up to 50 boxes. Over 150 lb, or once a few heavy boxes add up, put them on a pallet.

At what weight is it cheaper to go LTL instead of parcel?

On one lane it takes only a few heavy boxes. On September 30, 2026, a 70 lb box cost $77.52 to $101.19 Standard on the three lanes in the table, and one pallet up to 500 lb cost $216 to $426. 5 boxes of 70 lb Los Angeles to Chicago, 4 Newark to Miami, and 3 Dallas to Atlanta already cost more than one pallet. The LTL vs parcel guide prices the same boxes both ways.

About the Warp freight network

More about the Warp freight network
70+cross-dock facilities
6,800+Warp LTL lanes
14,000+vans & box trucks
24,000+vetted FTL carriers

Warp is the open source freight network: the tech is free and the network is open. We run Warp LTL, our own carrier, Warp FTL, cargo van, box truck and fulfillment ourselves, with every major LTL carrier, parcel, ocean and air plugged in beside them. Our driver app rides on every truck and our warehouse app runs every cross-dock, so an open network of 38,000+ carriers behaves like one carrier you control. Warp is licensed by the FMCSA as a property broker and freight forwarder, and runs the network itself: instant rates, live tracking, 70+ cross-dock facilities, 14,000+ cargo vans and box trucks, 80%+ US LTL zip-to-zip coverage and nationwide FTL, box truck and cargo van.

The network is supported by 24,000+ vetted FTL carriers.

Unlike traditional brokers, Warp uses AI to match the right vehicle to every load based on weight, dimensions, urgency, and cost targets. Cross-dock operations reduce transit time by eliminating unnecessary terminal transfers.

Pool distribution and zone-skipping programs help enterprise shippers lower per-unit delivery costs while maintaining tight appointment windows.

Self-serve shippers can quote, compare, and book freight online in under two minutes. Enterprise accounts get dedicated capacity planning, committed rate programs, and a named operations team. Every shipment includes scan-level visibility from pickup through final delivery.

Warp operates across the contiguous United States with regional density in the Southeast, Texas, Midwest, and Northeast corridors, and West Coast and Southwest coverage from Los Angeles, Seattle and Phoenix.

Warp operates 70+ cross-dock facilities across the US, with named markets including Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, New York, Savannah, Orlando, Charlotte, Indianapolis, Columbus, Denver, New Orleans, Milwaukee, Dallas-Fort Worth, Nashville, Phoenix, Tampa Bay, Seattle, Los Angeles. They support faster transfers and fewer touches on recurring lanes.

LTLPer-palletShared trailerLower per-pallet cost via cross-dock routing
Dry van / FTL42,000+ lbsFull 53-ft trailerHigh-volume lanes, recurring programs

Cargo vans handle loads up to 3,500 pounds and 400 cubic feet, ideal for time-sensitive deliveries, last-mile retail replenishment, and lightweight palletized freight.

Box trucks carry up to 10,000 pounds and 1,500 cubic feet, fitting most regional distribution and store delivery needs without requiring a loading dock.

Dry vans and full truckloads move 42,000+ pounds for high-volume lanes and recurring programs. LTL shipments share trailer space on optimized routes through Warp cross-docks, reducing per-pallet cost by consolidating multiple shippers on the same vehicle.

Warp does not default every shipment to a 53-foot trailer. The AI engine evaluates load weight, cube, delivery window, and cost to recommend the right vehicle. Shippers see all available mode options with live pricing in one comparison screen before booking.

Cross-dock operations

Cross-docking at Warp facilities keeps freight moving instead of storing it: inbound freight is sorted and transferred directly to outbound vehicles, typically within hours. When inventory does need to sit, Warp's fulfillment centers in Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago and New Jersey hold it inside the same network, with same day delivery within 30 miles of each.

This reduces dwell time, lowers damage risk, and compresses delivery windows. Warp cross-docks support pallet-in, pallet-out operations with scan-level tracking at every handoff point.

  • Atlanta — Southeast retail flow
  • Chicago — Midwest manufacturing and replenishment
  • Houston — Texas industrial distribution
  • New York — dense Northeast delivery

Facility locations are selected for corridor density: Atlanta handles Southeast retail flow, Chicago serves Midwest manufacturing and replenishment, Houston covers Texas industrial distribution, and New York supports dense Northeast delivery. Each facility operates on appointment-based scheduling to prevent congestion and maintain throughput consistency.

Enterprise freight programs

Enterprise shippers get committed rate programs, dedicated account management, and custom SLA design. Warp builds lane-by-lane rate structures that account for volume commitments, seasonal variation, and mode flexibility. Operations teams monitor shipment execution daily and intervene proactively when exceptions occur.

Self-serve freight quoting

Shippers enter origin and destination, load details, and delivery requirements to see live rates across all available modes. Quotes include estimated transit time, vehicle type, and total cost.

Booking takes one click. After booking, shippers track every shipment with real-time GPS location, milestone updates, and proof of delivery documentation.

Industries and use cases

Retail shippers use Warp for store replenishment programs that deliver to hundreds of locations per week on tight appointment windows. Apparel brands use zone skipping to bypass regional parcel sortation and reduce per-unit delivery cost.

Food and beverage companies rely on time-definite delivery for perishable goods. Manufacturing operations use Warp for inbound vendor consolidation, combining multiple supplier shipments into fewer, fuller loads through cross-dock facilities.

Distribution companies use pool distribution to serve multiple delivery points from a single origin, splitting full truckloads at cross-docks into smaller last-mile vehicles.

Urgent freight recovery covers emergency capacity needs when primary carriers fail or demand spikes unexpectedly. Middle-mile optimization reduces cost and transit time on the longest segment of multi-leg shipments.
