How much does drayage cost?
It depends on the miles, the box and the port. The price covers the truck from the terminal or rail ramp to your door and the empty back: trucking, fuel, tolls and the first chassis days, plus Pier Pass and the Clean Truck Fee at Los Angeles and Long Beach. The cheapest 40 ft rates the Warp dashboard returned on the lanes Warp tracks ran from $435.53 for about 5 miles from the Dallas and Fort Worth rail ramps to Lancaster, TX (Oct 16) to $1,790.25 for about 270 miles from the Port of Savannah to Atlanta, GA (Oct 15). Pick the port and type your ZIP above for the live price on your lane.
How are drayage rates calculated?
By the move, not by the pound. A drayage rate is one truck taking one container from the terminal or ramp to your door and the empty back. A move inside a port metro usually prices as one flat move and a longer run prices by the mile. The box size, its weight, the port fees at Los Angeles and Long Beach and switches like limited access, hazmat or a reefer change it. Waiting time, a prepull, yard storage and a chassis split are priced on the quote and bill only if they happen.
What fees and charges come with drayage?
Two kinds. Charges the drayage quote names with a rate before you book, billed only if they happen: waiting at the terminal or your dock by the hour, a prepull, yard storage by the day, a chassis split, extra chassis days and overweight above 36,000 lb. And two clocks no drayage price includes, from Warp or anyone: terminal demurrage after the last free day, billed to the ocean carrier and passed to you, and the ship line’s per diem until the empty is back.
What is the Pier Pass fee in 2026?
The PierPass Traffic Mitigation Fee is $40.63 per TEU, $81.26 for a 40 ft or larger, from August 1, 2026, on non exempt moves at Los Angeles and Long Beach terminals during peak hours (Monday to Friday, 3 a.m. to 6 p.m.). The Clean Truck Fund rate is $10 per TEU and $20 for a larger box. Together that's $101.26 on a 40 ft and $50.63 on a 20 ft, and Warp’s price on every LA and Long Beach lane already carries both.
How much is demurrage per day?
Each terminal sets it in its tariff. For a 40 ft dry import on the first days after free time, read October 25, 2026: $231 a day at the New York and New Jersey terminals under the NYTC tariff, $71.55 at Houston, $52.77 at the Port of Los Angeles terminals and $22.54 per TEU at the Port of Virginia, which is $45.08 for a 40 ft. Three days late is $693.00 in New York and New Jersey and $135.24 at Norfolk. It’s billed to the ocean carrier, which passes it to you.
Is a 20 ft container cheaper to dray than a 40 ft?
Usually a little, rarely by half: one truck and one driver pull either box. A 20 ft reaches the road weight limit sooner, about 38,000 lb of cargo against about 44,000 lb in a 40 ft, and at Los Angeles and Long Beach its port fees are half: $50.63 against $101.26. Price both sizes in the form above.
What are Houston drayage rates?
On Oct 16 the cheapest 40 ft rate the Warp dashboard returned from Port Houston to ZIP 77032 in North Houston, about 30 miles, was $666.75. Houston gives 7 free days at Barbours Cut and Bayport (10 when the box needs a Customs or USDA exam), then $71.55 a day for a 40 ft, and a Sustained Import Dwell Fee of $48.53 a day starts on the 8th day after free time. Pick Houston and type your ZIP above for the live price; Warp's Houston drayage page lists the terminals and the warehouse ZIPs boxes go to.
How do I keep demurrage and per diem off my bill?
Watch two dates on your arrival notice: the last free day at the terminal and the ship line’s free days on the box. Book the pull before the first. If your dock can’t take the box in time, a prepull to a yard usually costs less than demurrage. Return the empty inside the second; the price you book already includes taking it back.
Is the drayage cost calculator free?
Yes, and it needs no account. Firm rates show without signing up, and the lane you picked on this page arrives filled in. The Warp account opens only when you book, so tracking, documents and receipts reach you.
Who runs the drayage, and is Warp a forwarder?
Licensed drayage carriers in the Warp carrier network run their own trucks. Warp prices the move, books it, follows it to delivery and bills you once. Warp isn’t a freight forwarder or a customs broker: customs clearance and the container’s release stay with your broker and the ship line.
