1. C.H. Robinson: Solve the Problem Inside the Problem

C.H. Robinson started in 1905 as a wholesale brokerage serving settlers in the upper Midwest. The hard part was moving perishables before they spoiled. Robinson solved it by connecting transportation providers, investing in cold storage, and tightening scheduling and routing. The lesson is simple and durable: the solution is usually embedded in the problem. Old Dominion adapted through fuel crises and waves of new safety regulation, investing in the best available technology each time. Today it runs the tightest operation in LTL. Service first, then scale, in that order.
