What is a logistics API?

A logistics API is a programmatic interface that lets your software communicate directly with a freight network. Instead of logging into a separate platform to quote rates, book shipments, or check tracking, your TMS, WMS, ERP, or custom application sends and receives that data automatically through API calls. The logistics API eliminates manual data entry, reduces errors, and gives your systems access to live freight operations without switching between tools.

For logistics managers, a logistics API integration means your existing workflows stay intact. Your team keeps using the tools they already know. The freight data flows in and out through the API layer underneath. For 3PL operators, a logistics platform API lets you offer freight services to your own customers without building carrier relationships from scratch. For developers building logistics tools, the API is the foundation: quoting, booking, dispatching, tracking, and settlement are all available as endpoints.

Warp's logistics API connects your systems to a live network of 20,000+ carriers, 9,000+ box trucks and cargo vans, and 50+ Warp operated cross dock facilities. Every API call hits the same infrastructure that powers Warp's own platform. The rates are live. The tracking is real time. The carrier capacity is the actual network, not a database of contacts.

Integrations

What Warp's logistics API connects to

TMS integration is the most common starting point. Warp pushes scan events, GPS updates, and delivery confirmations directly to your TMS via API. Your operations team sees shipment status inside the system they already use. No tab switching. No manual status updates. Every pallet scanned in and scanned out at a Warp cross dock facility flows back to your TMS automatically.

ERP systems connect the same way. When a shipment books through the API, your ERP gets the rate, the carrier assignment, and the projected delivery window. When the shipment delivers, your ERP gets the proof of delivery data, the final charges, and the settlement details. This creates a clean audit trail from purchase order to delivery confirmation without anyone rekeying data between systems.

WMS platforms use the logistics API to trigger pickups when inventory is ready to ship. Your warehouse management system sends the shipment details. Warp's API returns a rate, books the carrier, and starts tracking. The WMS gets webhooks at every milestone: carrier dispatched, picked up, in transit, at cross dock, out for delivery, delivered.

Ecommerce platforms like Shopify connect through the API to offer freight shipping at checkout. Custom dashboards pull live shipment data, exception alerts, and carrier performance metrics through the same endpoints. If your system can make an HTTP request, it can connect to Warp's logistics API.

3PL API

Logistics API for 3PLs

Third party logistics providers use Warp's API to offer freight services to their customers without managing carrier relationships directly. The 3PL API model works like this: your customer requests a shipment through your platform. Your system calls Warp's API to get a live rate from the carrier network. You present that rate to your customer with your own margin built in. When the customer books, your system calls the API again to dispatch the shipment. Tracking, scan events, and delivery confirmation all flow back through the API to your platform.

This means a 3PL can offer LTL, truckload, box truck, and cargo van freight to their customers without owning a single truck, without negotiating carrier contracts, and without building dispatch infrastructure. Warp's network of 20,000+ carriers handles the capacity. The Warp driver app handles the visibility. Our AI backbone, Orbit, handles the exception monitoring. Your 3PL handles the customer relationship.

For 3PLs running dedicated programs, the API supports recurring lane configurations, committed capacity, and custom rate cards built by a Warp rep. The Work Queue system assigns consistent drivers to recurring routes so your customers get the same service quality every time. Carrier performance data is available through the API so you can report on time rates, damage rates, and delivery accuracy to your own customers.

Logistics tracking API

Real time logistics data

Every shipment on Warp generates real time data through the logistics tracking API. Local 3rd party carriers operate through the Warp driver app with live GPS tracking, scan in and scan out events at the barcode level, proof of delivery photos, and electronic signature capture. For line haul moves, ELD integrations provide continuous location data. Not check calls at pickup and delivery. Continuous visibility the entire route.

Webhooks push this data to your systems as events happen. A pallet gets scanned at a cross dock facility and your system knows immediately. A driver departs for delivery and your system gets the GPS coordinates. A delivery completes and your system receives the proof of delivery photo and signature. You choose which events to subscribe to and where they go.

Our AI backbone, Orbit, adds an intelligence layer on top of the raw data. Orbit monitors every load and flags late pickups, late departures, missed scans, route deviations, dwell anomalies, temperature deviations, and delivery exceptions. These exception alerts are available through the API so your system can surface problems to your team before they escalate. Your operations team gets the exceptions that matter, not every GPS ping from every truck.
